As I snack on a blue bowl of blueberries

The berries are coming in.  Just another reason I love summer.  The blueberries are first, but now the red raspberries are sparsely dotting their leafy bushes.  And this morning I picked and ate one of the black raspberries, but it wasn't quite ready, so my tongue told me.  The red raspberries are the best though. I could eat them instead of candy.

We recently rented The Sorcerer's Apprentice and August Rush.  The former was fast-paced and funny, the latter captivated me.  I remember Kellie posting about August Rush once, saying how good it was, so now I've finally come around to it.  I loved it.  The music was awe-inspiring, and left me thirsty for more.  And I must admit, Kellie, Freddie is pretty adorable. ;)

As far as my educational life goes, I am preparing to take the ACT tomorrow at 8:00 in the moaning, er, morning.  So all week I've been taking practice tests, studying test-taking strategies, and trying to remember how functions and factoring works and what the heck sine and cosine mean.  And I've been getting practice at writing an essay about some random topic that I don't care about in 30 minutes.  But I'm feeling pretty confident, nonetheless.  I'll just be glad to finally do it.

As far as my artistic life goes, I'm learning to play "The Call" on the piano, I've got an idea for my next song, and I've painted another watercolor and collage.

The daisies are real, I picked and pressed them myself.  I'm thinking about calling this one "Innocence."

This is just a random weird one I decided to paint.  It was inspired by a dream.  Oh, and speaking of dreams, I had a dream a few weeks ago that Kellie was at my house and we had an epic, I've-been-wanting-to-meet-you-forever hug.  But I kept wondering where Meg was...

My favorite thing about camping

Today we got back from our church's annual Memorial weekend camping trip.  It was fun; bicycling, good food, music, wading in the river.  Yesterday my dad, sisters, a couple of friends and I rode our bikes to some little swimming holes.  I had forgotten to pack my swimsuit, so I was just going to wade while they dared to dunk into the chilling water.  Then they started splashing.  I abandoned grown-up-ishness and jumped in, clothes and all.  Very cold.  Very satisfying.

But my favorite thing to do at this campground is to walk alone down the trail along the river in the morning.  It's magical.  Here are the pics I took on this morning's walk:

Pirates and Mermaids and Missionaries, Oh My!

Today I went to the local cinema (I "went to the cinema, yah") with my friend Jonathan and saw Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides.  And I enjoyed it very much.  It was awesome.  In case you haven't seen it or gathered from previews, they're trying to find the Fountain of Youth.  And of course, everyone has his (or her) own reasons for going there.  In order for the enchanted water to have effect, however, one must drink it from a certain silver chalice along with a mermaid tear while another person drinks it from the matching chalice.  The person without the mermaid tear will die, and the other will remain forever young.  

The mermaid part was really cool, despite the fact that they want to eat humans.  Also interesting is how the captive missionary, Philip, falls in love with Syrena, the mermaid Blackbeard captures for a tear.  And of course there's the relationship between Jack and Angelica, whom I must say Penelope Cruz played wonderfully.  Oh, and the soundtrack is great too.  Ah, I could go on and on. 

To jump or not to jump: that is the question.

Oh, and my sisters and I sang earlier today on our town's square for March for Jesus, and it went well. It was a beautiful day, with a lovely breeze.  Then we saw the movie, then got milkshakes and root beer floats and the like. All in all, a good day. :)

As I ponder choices...

We make them every day, every second.  We choose to do and not to do, all the time. Oftentimes, choices are unconsciously made; sometimes too swiftly, sometimes too slowly.  Today, I was imagining myself trying to sort out every decision I have to make every day, and how different my life would be if I chose to do this or not do that with every single thing.  This, I believe, would be a poor life choice in itself; I would scarce call it living, analyzing everything, looking before every leap. Sometimes life is a leap of faith.

Okay, I think I'm done philosophizing, lol. Now for some updates.  The Miracle Worker, which ran last weekend and this weekend, was fantastic.  My little sister played a blind girl in it, and I helped backstage with costumes and such.  And one night I was the ticket-taker, and I got to dress in black and white and wear one of the playhouse vests, which made me feel very professional.  But at intermission, I had to sell raffle tickets, and I felt quite awkward asking people who wanted their mountain dew and snickers bar if they'd like to buy raffle tickets. I ended up selling three, making only $20. Epic fail.

I am currently filling in for an actress in the next play, An Uncivil Union.  She's unable to attend all but the last week and a half of rehearsals, so when she gets here, I'll walk her through the blocking and all that good stuff.  The funny thing is, she's playing a 50 or 60 year old widow. So I, the youngest one in the rehearsal room, am playing the eldest. Funny.  And it's kinda sad that I won't ack-chellay be in the play, but I will get to run the lights for the show! *happy dance*

Aside from drama, my homeschool group's annual end-of-the-school-year presentation is tomorrow night.  Each family will sing a song, recite scripture, or do some other sort of performance, and then eat and look at the families' displays of what their school year entailed.  Right now, I'm ack-chellay supposed to be typing headings and labels for our display board, but I'd rather be blogging. (That should seriously be a bumper sticker.)  I'll be playing the piano and singing with my sisters a song that I wrote, which we need to practice, which means I must close.

Oh, and one more thing; I made some Chinese egg drop soup for supper. It wasn't as good as Little Tokyo's, but it was flavorful, and I enjoyed it.

A relief post

So, first of all, I thought I'd post a recent interview with Skandie, which I'm 99% certain my DBFs have seen, but hey, it's Skandar. 

I had to watch this several times before I ack-chellay got what he was saying, because I was so preoccupied with staring at him.  I do wish it wouldn't have kept cutting him off before his lovely voice was finished speaking.

And, be puzzled no more my dear blogging friends.  Kellie, trust your first instinct; you were right on the dot! For Megan, you guessed it the second time ;)

Country Western Show

Okay, so I'm finally getting around to uploading the picture like I promised from the Country Western Show, but sadly, I am at the moment still rather busy, so I won't be able to say much. Tonight is the final dress rehearsal for The Miracle Worker, and I am helping with costumes, so I'll be leaving shortly.  But anyway, here's the pic.  (I'm in there somewhere, but you'll just have to guess ;)

Just doin' what I love

Of course, for me, doing what I love usually means not being able to do something else I love.  I've been doing theater stuff all week, but it's been almost a week since I've blogged, and longer since I've written or painted.  But that's life I suppose; you can't do it all.

This weekend my drama class performed our Country Western Show, which was a variety show; in other words, it had a lot of singing and dancing, poem reciting, and skit written by some of my classmates and me.  At the very beginning, however, we performed a sort of teaser thing, singing and dancing to a medley of numbers from Seussical.  Later in the show, my sisters and I sang Independence by The Band Perry.  I can post a picture of the whole class on stage (you can't see our faces very well), if it's okay with you guys and your parents.  I don't want to do anything to make you or them uncomfortable.  I also have some videos from it,  but I don't know if my mom will let me post them.  But anyway; the whole thing was so much fun and I'm sad that it's over and drama class is over.

I also had a meeting yesterday for my apprenticeship with the theater.  This week I'm working (mostly with costumes) for The Miracle Worker, in which my littlest sister is playing a blind girl.  Today I helped in the women's dressing room with costumes, and then headed downstairs to help my friend Jonathan make some breakfast food props.  Then my friend Samantha came down (she is also in The Miracle Worker) and we three apprentices had a heck of a good time trying to paint the cardboard slices of ham the right color.  It was some really odd looking ham, but at least the blue foam pieces of toast turned out nice after a coat of paint.  Ah, the theater. Good times.

By the way, in case you were wondering why I wasn't at church, it's because my dad only lets my mom, sisters, and me go to church every other Sunday.  He's not a Christian, so please pray for him.  He really is a most wonderful dad, and it would make me so happy if he would accept Jesus.

Well, I'm off to play the piano, or perhaps watch some Narnia. Yeah, that's always great. I might just do that.
